Seriously, when we named our biz after the Whiskeyjack, we just assumed that everyone would know what a whiskeyjack was. Little did we know that outside of our little Boreal Heaven most people have never heard of Whiskeyjacks. Whiskeyjack is the common name for the Canadian Gray Jay.

If you've ever paddled in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, you've undoubtedly seen these little beggers hovering around your camp site waiting to swoop in and steal any unattended food scraps. Because of this, they are also nick-named the Camp Thief. There's no doubt they've been called much worse after they've stolen something tasty. |
The Cree First Nations people referred to them as Wisakedjak -which eventually evolved into English as Whiskeyjack. So that's the scoop. These odd little creatures are an essential part of the Northwoods experience and the inspiration for our company name.
